One of my favorite things to encounter as an African wildlife photographer is an angry bull elephant. I live to capture portraits of these powerful and intelligent beings. From the back of a pickup truck I was eyed by this dominant male, who stood with ears flared open, tusks up and loud trumpeting. I was working as a volunteer photographic researcher on an endangered species-monitoring program at Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, at the time. I live in Botswana and Massachusetts, and work to protect critically endangered species through the power of the camera lens.
