Jane Vickers - Single Image Winner - DIGITAL/ANALOG MANIPULATION

This image is a composite of six different photographs. My process typically begins with a single element, with no preconceived destination. I look through hundreds of my photos in search of complementary visual components; the pieces of the puzzle. Slowly, a story begins to emerge and unfold and come together. Life is a delicate balance of holding on and letting go. This image represents the ultimate love and sacrifice of letting go. The figure releases her beloved and treasured butterfly to venture out and soar beyond her boundaries. While yearning to follow, she must say her final goodbye.
