Rick Kattelmann Single Image Winner

During a group tour to Burma, we had a free afternoon in Bagan. Our guide recognized that three of us were interested in the local history and culture and also had a friend who could take us to several less-visited sites. Our subgroup enjoyed a great afternoon with this Bagan resident who provided access to some wonderful experiences and photographic opportunities. Late in the day, we were in a small temple where sunlight was streaming through round openings in the brick. Our local guide lit some incense to provide smoke to accentuate the shafts of light and asked a young monk to read his book in the alcove.
